Natural History Museum

After waking up and walking around in a daze with Davy telling us every few minutes that it was time to go :) we were off to the Natural History Museum. Driving in DC is no joke and what is even harder is finding somewhere to park 4 fifteen passenger vans. Thanks to Davy’s GPS and Marshal’s keen eyes we finally found a parking deck. (The kind of deck that you think that any minute your van will get stuck and so you duck thinking that somehow this will help, regardless of the fact that you are inside of the van…)

The kids (well pre-teens and teens) did a really great job in the museum and really were interested and actually stopped to read some of the signs (well the girls at least). I found it really interesting that the majority of the group enjoyed looking at the rocks and gems more than the animals. One young man wanted to take pictures of every gem, it was really sweet to see him walking around with Nichole and trying to pronounce each name and to guess how much each stone was worth.

We stopped midway though and went out side to eat our lunch. Unknown to us there was a bunch of fat spoiled pigeons that thought our lunch was actually theirs and were out to steal anything that we left unguarded. This could possibly have been my favorite part of the day. For it was in these short 30 minutes that the kids actually acted like middle schoolers and not 12 year olds going on 25. There was a lot of laugher and many squeals as the pigeons dived in for the kill. Kids were jumping on top of each other to keep away from the lunch stealing birds. It makes me smile thinking about it.

After eating our lunch and seeing more of the museum, the group then walked to see the Washington monument and the Lincoln Memorial while the van drivers caught a cab and brought the van s back to pick everyone up.

We finished up our day by having “Fancy Dinner Night” we were a little disappointed b/c we didn’t have time to go back and change into our nice outfits; but the disappointed only lasted a little while and everyone was lost in the fun of ordering what they wanted to eat and being able to relax and enjoy each other.

We all went back to the college goofed off and fell asleep around midnight or a little after, looking forward to six flags the next day!
